Blog No2 - The Grit & Glory, Part 1: The Birth of the Album TTT – Tap Those Toes

Welcome back to our "Grit & Glory" series, where we are pulling back the curtain on the journey of theBlueShamrocks. In our first post, we introduced you to the soul of the band and the dream that started it all—the desire to bring authentic Irish-influenced country music to Australia. If you missed that introduction, you may read our first blog post Introducing theBlueShamrocks” here, to see how our roots shaped our sound.

But a dream is just the beginning. To make that sound a reality, we had to go bigger than we ever imagined. This week, we’re taking you into the studio for the high-energy, high-stakes creation of our debut album.

The Grit & Glory, Part 1: The Birth of the Album TTT – Tap Those Toes

Week 1: The Birth of the Album TTT - Tap Those Toes

When we first set out to create theBlueShamrocks, we didn’t want to do things by halves. Our vision was to create a "big sound" with high-energy for the Brisbane music scene. That vision led us to the creation of our first album, TTT (Tap Those Toes), and the ambitious decision to form a 9-piece band.

Our original powerhouse lineup consisted of:

  • Lead Vocals & Backing Vocals
  • Lead, Rhythm, and Acoustic Guitars
  • Bass Guitar & Drums
  • Accordion, Keyboard, and Fiddle

The key person who brought this massive sound together in the studio was James North Productions. Without James’s expertise and guidance, getting a project of this scale off the ground would have been a real struggle.

The Learning Curve: Bringing the Dance Hall to Brisbane

TTT- Tap Those toes was an album of covers based on Jive, Waltz, and Line Dance music—the staple tunes featured in Irish country music dance halls.

Two of these tunes are featured in this blog.

Interestingly, this specific style of music and these actual tunes had never really been played by these musicians previously. It was a brand-new world for everyone, and the learning curve was steep. We weren't just learning songs, we were learning a rhythm and a culture.

The Highs: The Power of the 9-member band.

There is nothing quite like the wall of sound created by nine dedicated musicians. In the beginning, the energy was fantastic. It required dedication to learn this new music and create that desired "big sound." We were focused on high-quality country and world dance covers, songs designed to get people off their chairs and onto the dance floor.

Recording TTT - Tap Those Toes was our way of planting a flag in the ground. We wanted to prove that a Brisbane-based band could deliver a musically tight, professional experience that honoured both my Irish heritage and our modern-versioned country songs.

The Lows: The Weight of the Machine

However, gaining traction in a competitive market like Australia, with Brisbane as our home base, is a steep uphill climb.

We quickly realised that while a 9-piece band sounds incredible, the logistics are a mountain to climb. Coordinating nine schedules, nine personalities, and the sheer physical space required for a band that size started to reveal the "weight" of the effort.

We are excited to continue this journey with you. If you want to keep up with our latest tracks and stories, you can find us on Spotify and Facebook, links below, or right here on our official website.
